David Leitner, “Dugo,” was born in 1930 in Hungary. After surviving the Holocaust, Leitner dreamed of “bilkalach”- round challah rolls. After he arrived in Israel, he saw falafel balls which reminded him of the bilkalach. In Israel, January 18th was chosen as the day to eat falafel and remember Dugo and his story of survival. Prior to winter break, on January 16, we honored Dugo and ate falafel!
